Kirsten A. Smith

Kirsten is an award-winning photographer, author and playwright, and avid traveler (~60 countries so far!) based in San Francisco. Her photographic work spans diverse subjects and genres — from portraits in Asia and South America to abstracts of flowers to mountain landscapes to monochrome street photography. Kirsten seeks to convey the unique and dreamy way she sees the world around her. She’s best known for using a motion blur technique to capture a painterly, surreal, or cinematic quality in her images.

Kirsten has been making, exhibiting, and selling her photographs for over 25 years. Originally from Michigan, she began as a student photographer for her high school literary magazine, and hasn’t put down cameras since. She trained with prominent Detroit-area portrait photographers, and studied photography and writing in college, graduating from Oakland University. In 2007 she moved to San Francisco to begin a career as a marketing writer for major retail and tech companies, while continuing to pursue her passion of making art. A through line of Kirsten‘s work, past to present, is the concept that while imperfect, the world is a beautiful and inspiring place.
